APC's Next Generation Symmetra® PX System Doubles the Power Density While Reducing the Footprint more than 60 Percent for Small to Medium Sized Data Centers
APC's New Symmetra® PX System Meets Growing Power Demands by Providing up to 160kW of Power Protection for 400V Deployments
Singapore, 4 February 2008 - APC, part of the critical power and cooling services business unit of Schneider Electric, today announced availability of its Symmetra® PX 160kW uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system with optional integrated modular power distribution units (PDU) for data centers. This next generation Symmetra PX system provides double the power, longer life batteries with up to 25 percent more runtime, and an integrated battery/bypass/distribution rack that reduces the solution footprint by 63 percent.
The Symmetra PX offers a truly modular system made up of dedicated and redundant modules -- power, distribution, intelligence, battery and bypass -- all engineered into a design that makes service easy and efficient. This architecture eliminates waste and lowers overall TCO by giving IT managers the ability to right-size power and runtime as demand grows or as higher levels of availability is required. The Symmetra PX serves as the core power train that drives APC InfraStruXure® architecture for small and medium data centers, but can also power individual "zones" of larger data centers.
"Designed to address the increasing shortage of data center space, the next generation Symmetra PX system offers 160kW of power protection, integrated modular power distribution and extended life batteries in the same two rack footprint as the existing Symmetra PX 80kW offering," said Jan Semler-Joergensen, Business Development Manager, Asia Pacific and Japan. "With this new compact design, companies can experience lower initial capital costs and operating costs by right-sizing their power and rack combinations."
Highly manageable, the Symmetra PX features self-diagnostic capabilities and standardized modules that mitigate the risk of human error resulting in increased overall data center reliability. In addition, by offering the same core attributes of the existing Symmetra PX family, namely redundancy and scalability, the higher power density and hot-scalable modular power distribution helps ensure system availability and agility while reducing total cost of ownership.
