Anyone with low myopia knows an annoying physical reality that optical brands rarely talk about: extremely thin, high-water contact lenses can be a royal pain in the neck to handle.
When your prescription is mild, the lens doesn’t carry much structural center thickness. If a daily disposable is engineered to be gossamer-thin, it tends to curl over your fingertip, flop inside out, or wrap stubborn liquid surface tension around your cornea when you try to pinch it off at midnight. For years, finding a daily disposable that balanced mechanical handling with true all-day hydration felt like chasing a moving target.

What struck me immediately was how easy they were to insert and take off. The Evolution: Transitioning from Basis to Basis+

The Basis+ was engineered with a more refined profile: an ultra-thin 0.08 mm center thickness, a 55% water content hydrogel matrix, and packaging preserved in an HPMC (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose) lubricating solution that mirrors the wetting agents used in artificial tear formulations. On paper, it was designed to maximize all-day oxygen transmissibility and surface wettability.
In daily practice? To be completely honest, the Basis+ lenses are slightly trickier to wear and remove than the original Basis. Because the profile is thinner, you have to be deliberate with your fingertips—especially if you’re taking them off after twelve hours in dry, air-conditioned rooms.
Yet, the payoff is real: they remain noticeably softer throughout an extended evening, resisting that gritty end-of-day drying sensation without requiring re-wetting drops. For that reason, I stayed with the brand and kept Basis+ as my regular monthly subscription.
An Unexpected Delivery: The Dewed Colored Lenses
A few weeks ago, my standard replenishment parcel arrived with an unexpected extra: two sample boxes of TWOOAK’s newer entry into aesthetic optics—the Dewed Daily Disposable Coloured Lens.
Curious about how they formulated a cosmetic lens, I looked over the specifications. Unlike the Basis+, the Dewed series uses a 38% water content UT hydrogel base with a base curve of 8.7 mm and a 14.2 mm diameter. The formulation incorporates taurine and PMB for sustained moisture retention, paired with vitamin B12 and Class II UV blocking. Lower nominal water content in hydrogels often translates to lower dehydration rates over long stretches, which makes sense for a patterned lens meant to sit stable on the iris.

I have occasionally thought about experimenting with colored lenses, but my genetic baseline makes cosmetic lenses tricky. Being of mixed heritage (Chinese and Slavic), my eyes are naturally a noticeably lighter shade of brown rather than deep dark brown or black.
Hands-On: Wearing Mocha Rain

What did happen was subtle definition. A few observant friends pointed out that my eyes looked somehow “fresher” or younger. The subtle limbal and tonal ring of the Mocha Rain pattern simply sharpened the natural borders of my iris, creating visual contrast without looking theatrical or artificial.
Would I Switch My Regular Subscription?
For my everyday rotation, no. While the Mocha Rain pattern is tasteful and avoids the pixelated, “doll-eye” look that ruins many cosmetic lenses, my natural eye color already provides enough natural lightness.
Looking across TWOOAK’s current Dewed palette—which spans Mocha Rain, Pink Opal, Pink Dew, and Ocean Mist—the gentle rosy undertones of Pink Opal or Pink Dew wouldn’t move the needle much against my iris color either.
The one intriguing option in their lineup is Ocean Mist. A cool, muted tone would actually interact with a light brown base to create a discernible shift in tone. If I ever decide to add a cosmetic variant to my shelf for specific occasions, that would be the only shade worth testing.
For now, my subscription stays anchored to the clear Basis+ as they are affordable and work for me. Plus, my eyes are already light-colored. But for anyone who finds standard dailies either too floppy to handle or too drying to endure—or who wants a subtle iris enhancement that doesn’t scream costume makeup—TWOOAK’s incremental formulation updates are definitely worth a closer look.
