# Quiet Luxury Reimagined: Why the All-Electric Škoda Peaq Feels Like the Natural Successor to My Superb

Eons ago, when I picked up my Škoda Superb 1.8T, my friends didn't quite get it at first glance. They saw a modest badge. But the second they slid into the back seat, their expressions changed completely. That car was an open secret. With legroom that rivalled long-wheelbase executive German barges and a smooth, unfussy turbocharged ride, it delivered true limousine comfort without the badge snobbery or the eye-watering price tag. It was pure understated class.

For the longest time, I wondered whether Škoda could ever replicate that exact ethos in the electric era. Many modern electric SUVs feel frantic, over-styled, and needlessly showy.

Then came the unveiling of the [Škoda Peaq](https://www.skoda-auto.com/models/range/peaq).

Sitting at nearly five meters long as Škoda’s all-electric flagship SUV, the Peaq is proof that the Czech carmaker hasn't lost touch with what made cars like the Superb special. Instead, they have scaled that quiet luxury into a whisper-quiet, lounge-like family hauler that puts genuine executive refinement into everyday hands.

## Modern Solid: Presence Without the Pretense

Škoda calls its contemporary design language "Modern Solid," and on the Peaq, it works brilliantly. The vehicle carries a wide, planted stance with clean, sculpted surfaces that avoid aggressive gimmicks.

Up front, the illuminated Tech-Deck Face replaces the traditional grille, framed by sleek, sharp lighting that instantly establishes its flagship standing. Flush door handles down the sides blend seamlessly into the bodywork, with the stretched silhouette and aerodynamically optimized wheels highlighted. Around the back, the confident stance and clean horizontal proportions give it a sense of grounded stability.

It does not shout for attention, yet you cannot miss its proportions. It exudes the exact kind of understated elegance that Superb owners know and appreciate: refined, purposeful, and thoroughly thought out.

## A Living Room on Wheels

Step inside, and the limousine DNA immediately reveals itself. The Peaq is the largest Škoda ever built, offered in either five- or seven-seat configurations.

Škoda has styled the cabin as a genuine sanctuary. For those in the front and middle rows, the new Relax Package brings ergonomic massage seats paired with integrated leg rests. Combine that serene posture with an immersive 3D sound system developed by Sonos, and long-distance drives turn into an effortless retreat rather than a chore.

Look up, and you will notice the largest panoramic glass roof ever fitted to a Škoda. Rather than relying on a clumsy mechanical roller blind, it features electrochromic Dynamic Shade Control with nine independently adjustable segments. You can tint sections of the glass overhead with a swipe on the controls, shaping natural cabin light on demand.

Practicality remains uncompromising throughout the entire cabin layout, just as the original Superb was. In the standard five-seater version, you get a record-breaking 935 liters of boot volume with the seats upright, which expands to an enormous 2,150 liters once you drop the 60:40 split rear backrests flat. If you opt for the seven-seater model, there is still 299 liters of luggage capacity even with all three rows in use, expanding up to 2,075 liters when the rear seats fold down. Up front, Škoda has also engineered a dedicated frunk under the bonnet, giving you a separate compartment to stow away your charging cables so they never take up valuable space in the main luggage area.

Oh yes, why break the bank with a Rolls Royce when you can have the Škoda Peaq and have the same brolly in-vehicle?

## Confidence on the Road: Over 600 km of Range

An electric flagship is only as relaxing as its charging curve and range allow. The Peaq directly tackles long-distance travel anxiety with three powertrain variants, including single-motor configurations and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive Peaq 90x.

In its top configuration, the Peaq delivers a driving range of over 600 km on a full charge. When you do need to stop on cross-country road trips, DC fast charging takes the battery from 10% to 80% in just 28 minutes. You plug in, stretch your legs, and grab a coffee, and you are ready to roll.

The Peaq also features bidirectional charging. That effectively turns this near-five-meter SUV into a high-capacity power bank on wheels. Whether you are running equipment at a campsite, powering an electric caravan setup, or topping up an e-bike out in the countryside, the battery pack handles external power needs effortlessly.

## Thoughtful Tech and Everyday Cleverness

Inside the cockpit, technology assists rather than overwhelms. The minimalist dash centers around an intuitive 13.6-inch vertical touchscreen, backed up by an augmented-reality head-up display that projects navigation and driver-assist graphics directly into your line of sight.

Naturally, the classic "Simply Clever" signatures remain intact throughout the car. The driver's door continues to house a built-in umbrella, while the windscreen wipers feature integrated wet-arm washer jets, and an ice scraper with a tire tread depth gauge is always within reach. Passengers benefit from a fold-out center console table, boot cargo nets, and practical hanging hooks. Access is effortless thanks to an electric tailgate with hands-free Virtual Pedal operation, and a dedicated USB-C port mounted behind the rearview mirror makes installing a dashcam tidy and cable-free.

## If only...

The automotive market does not need another flashy, hyper-aggressive electric SUV. What it needs is space, serenity, thoughtful usability, and real-world long-distance stamina.

The Škoda Peaq captures the exact spirit that made the Superb a quiet classic: generous luxury and space delivered without arrogance. For drivers who appreciate substance over badge prestige, this new flagship SUV hits the sweet spot. For me in Singapore, if only the government COE (certificate of entitlement) is not prohibitively expensive, like the price of a whole new car in addition to paying for the car, I would consider the Peaq.
